The Michael Janssen Gallery Cologne is pleased to present the group show The future is but the obsolete in reverse, curated by David Hunt featuring the iraqi artist Ahmed Alsoudani and the american artists Jesse Bercowetz, Ted O‘Sullivan and Thaddeus Strode.

Ahmed Alsoudani, * 1976, Baghdad. He ed his native country for the US after the 1990-91 Gulf War, he lives and works in New Haven, CT. He attended the Maine College of Art in Portland and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and is currently enrolled in the MFA program at Yale University, New Haven. In 2007 his works were exhibited in solo shows at Mehr Gallery and Thierry Goldberg Projects in New York. Group- shows a. o. included in 2007 the National Gallery of Saskatchewan, Canada and the Gwangju Museum of Art, South Korea.

Jesse Bercowetz, * 1969, Boston, Massachusetts. He studied at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Michael Janssen presented a solo project at the Volta New York 2008. In 2007, the artist participated in the inaugural exhibition Blood Meridian at the Galerie Michael Janssen in Berlin. Among other exhibitions: Derek Eller Gallery in New York, The Happy Lion in Los Angeles. With Matt Bua in 2006: Things Got Legs in the Derek Eller Gallery in New York, The Great Lie Down at the Locust Projects, Project Space in Miami.

Ted O’ Sullivan, * 1976, Weymouth, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of the School of the Museum of ne Arts in Boston and the MFA School of Visual Arts in New York. He lives and works in Brooklyn. His first solo exhibition was Five Unreachable Truths at The Happy Lion in Los Angeles. Group exhibitions included: in 2007 Blood Meridian at Galerie Michael Janssen in Berlin, Coercive Atmospherics at the Dumbo Arts Center in New York, both curated by David Hunt, Reality Bites at the Angell Gallery in Toronto. The Melvins at Mandrake in Los Angeles and M*A*S*H at Art Basel Design in Miami in 2006, both curated by Bob Nickas.

Thaddeus Strode, * 1964, Santa Monica, California. He studied at the Otis/Parsons Art Institute and the California Institute of the Arts, earning a BFA degree from the latter in 1986. He lives and works in Los Angeles. His work has been exhibited across the United States and Europe, including more than twenty solo gallery shows, among others: Galerie Michael Janssen, Cologne; neugerriemschneider, Berlin; Galleria Gió Marconi, Milan; the Happy Lion, Los Angeles; Galleri K in Oslo, Nils Staerk Contemporary Art, Copenhagen; MOCA Shanghai and Kunstverein Heilbronn. Recent group exhibitions include Sympathy for the Devil, Art and Rock and Roll since 1967 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago in 2007, Imagination becomes Reality at the ZKM in Karlsruhe (Germany) and Funny Cuts: Cartoons and Comics in Contemporary Art at the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart. Currently his work is included in the exhibition Fun Fun Fun at the ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum. In 2008 he had his rst solo museum exhibition, Absolutes and Nothings, at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in St. Louis.
