Longing and Misery in Culture and Mass media

The German conceptual artist Margret Eicher (*1955) and the Russian artist group AES+F - Tatiana Arzamasova (*1955), Lev Evzovich (*1958), Evgeny Svyatsky (*1957) + Vladimir Fridkes (*1956) - cite historical styles, current mass media, themes and characters in their works, which refer to classical and romantic ideas of social decadence. They develop radical artistic and thematic perspectives on current aspects of social and political conditions.

The interplay of their approaches succeeds in this joint exhibition project, which is inspired by Charles Baudelaire's dream of luxury, laziness and lust in his poem L'Invitation au Voyage (1857).

The exhibition is not intended to moralize, but rather takes a laconic look at current controversial topics. The correspondence between the sculptural works by AES+F and the large-format tapestries by Margret Eicher promises an exciting arc of tension between the two pictorial spheres in the face of apocalyptic world perspectives.
